Innovative Medical Devices Creation Laboratory
This laboratory will mainly promote research and development of medical devices, medical robots, wearable devices, MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems), and other systems that support the creation of new medical technologies.
By transforming the conventional individual-to-individual medical-engineering collaboration into an organization-to-organization collaboration, we will build a more powerful group research collaboration scheme. Consequently, we will establish a seamless research execution mechanism that will take the university’s seeds through the practical application demonstration stage, including non-clinical testing, clinical trials, and clinical studies.
Healthcare MaaS Laboratory
This laboratory will develop high value-added service technology that connects transportation and medical care, such as hospital visits to medical institutions and emergency transportation.
Specifically, we will design a new mobility network service that resolves the spatial and temporal divide between residents’ daily lives and medical care, based on the actual model of Shin-Shonan area, which faces various issues such as daily traffic congestion and high demand for emergency transportation in a wide area. To this end, we will proceed with research and development on traffic engineering analysis over a wide area including the surrounding region, development and usefulness evaluation of MaaS applications by integrating them with cohort studies, and urban traffic management technology with a view to lifesaving emergency medical care and disaster relief.
Medical Data Science Laboratory
Shin-Shonan is an area where Fujisawa City and Kamakura City, both secondary medical districts, are intersecting, and there is a growing momentum to build a common PHR (Personal Health Record)/EHR (Electronic Health Record) platform in this area. We will promote medical informatics research for the utilization of big data that leads to early diagnosis of unmet and latent diseases in the health and medical fields, as well as monetization efforts linked to drug discovery and medical device development.
Femtech and Assistive-tech Research Laboratory
By promoting research and development of FemTech that considers gender differences and personalized and optimal assistive technologies that take physical differences such as disabilities into consideration, we will contribute to the realization of a divergent and inclusive regional society. In addition, for difficult-to-diagnose issues such as mental illness and dementia, we will promote the development of technologies to support diagnosis and evaluation based on daily movement data such as writing, etc. We will also collaborate with local governments to implement such technologies at school and learning sites.
Health Innovation Ecosystem Co-Creation Lab
Our goal is two-fold: to foster new lifestyles that are conscious of healthcare and wellness, and for the region to function as a cutting-edge center for health innovation. We will promote research that integrates social science and urban science, which is necessary to create an ecosystem with health technology at its core, in cooperation with various stakeholders in the region, and establish a sustainable and effective system of collaboration among industry, academia, public, medical, and private sectors for creating innovations.
